One of my favorite places to DJ weddings is Westcroft Gardens located on Grosse Ile. Established on July 6, 1776 it is the oldest family owned and operated farm in the state of Michigan. Westcroft is currently owned by the 7th generation of Macomb descendants and operated by the 8th generation. This is where Westcroft stands out from other venues. Clayton and Erica set the tone for your entire event. They are highly organized, personable and genuinely happy to allow guests access to their beautiful property. You may ask, well how can they set the tone for an event? Their positive attitudes have an immediate impact on every wedding professional and guest that show up to your wedding. They are your guests first impression. They welcome everyone with open arms and readily share any history or information that you would like to know about the property. If you’re lucky, you may even get to meet Luna the cat.
There are a few key elements when it comes to providing DJ services at this venue. You don’t need a ton of sound. It’s not a huge, high ceiling venue where you need to fill a large room. All that is required is nice, clean, well positioned audio. Why clean sound? Well, because there are neighbors and if poorly amplified speakers are utilized then the DJ will need to crank it up and that could disturb the neighbors and quite frankly hurt your guests ears. The dance floor is in close proximity to the DJ, which is great for interaction. As for lighting, I prefer to bring a handful of battery powered up lights. I strategically place these on the ground as dance floor lighting. These lights illuminate the cover of the Azelea house creating the same effect as overhead lighting. Why? The DJ is positioned near the edge of the domed greenhouse and that doesn’t allow space for overhead DJ lights to be positioned high in the air. Click Here to see us DJ an event at this location.
Guests planning a Wedding at Westcroft Gardens & Farm may decide to have a ceremony only, reception only, or ceremony and reception on the grounds. Be certain to utilize a DJ that can provide battery powered services for your ceremony. There isn’t access to power at the ceremony site and you’ll want your guests to be able to hear your officiant and your vows. Do not use a generator, they’re too noisy for a wedding ceremony. If you’re not having live musicians you will also want the DJ to provide music for your guest arrival and your walk down the aisle. Westcroft can accommodate up to 100 guests for Wedding Ceremonies and events in the Azalea House. Another major perk of selecting to have your wedding at Westcroft Gardens are the amenities offered such as tables, chairs, a portable dance floor and changing area in their Wedding Suite. You’ll also receive a 1 hour rehearsal and engagement photo shoot. These are huge perks! Wedding Season at Westcroft starts Memorial Day weekend and goes through the end of October. There are roughly four acres of Heritage Gardens from which you can enjoy during your wedding or event. Prime bloom season is from mid-May to mid-June, however the grounds retain their beauty with each season. They are also an operational greenhouse in the spring. It’s hard to believe that creating memorable events at their beautiful heirloom Gardens started nearly 100 years ago! Westcroft Gardens, where moments blossom and memories grow!
